Dear All,
Instead of boring you with my continuing triumphs in this most lovely of islands, I felt it might be prudent to offer a selection of lyrical sketches from a few of the songs I have been working on recently.
The Landing studio is in a little shack that also houses hundreds of cases of wine from all over the world and a very impressive collection of vintage rums. Not a drop passes these temperate lips during work hours but I enjoy the proximity of so much expensive alcohol.
The shack is besides the bay and directly in front of the Government dock, where everything is busy with water taxis and cargo ships unloading. Very Maugham and very Conrad and at this moment very covered in mosquitoes!
Anyway I have been spending the hot bit of the day recording in there and it has become an enjoyable routine to walk down to the harbour every morning and wrestle with the muse! Spanish Wells is visible at night from the hill in Dunmore town like a floating city of yellow light and is separated from us by the Devil's Backbone reef and let us start with that as our title...
Track One Side One:
Drum intro
I went broke on the Devil's backbone more than four thousand miles from London Town
I scrapped by on the piety of angels, on solar radiation and a sea-weed crown
Baksheesh and Rickenbacker rhythm Lord and it feels so fine
Huffing glue and aviation diesel on the spur road back outside of Dunmore Town
Pie-eyed on Frescobaldi more than six hundred miles south of Amsterdam
I set my eyes on the beauty of a woman ,on watermelon spirit and dirty great hams
Back chat like a Pennebaker picture, shots from the hip so fine
Snow chains and the vision of a prophet, Terryaki Jerky and a hammer down
Baksheesh and a Rickenbacker rhythm, lord as the day is long
Sweet dreams and the vision of a prophet, a huge Eve's apple and dirty great hands
'Mach Show!" to the sounding of a whistle, pull up to the lot and loose the tree day tank
Crank speed to the vision of a lizard, polar radiation and a hammer down
Pike's Peak to the Rickenbacker causeway, Lord and I'm feeling fine
I set my heart on the beauty of a woman, water melon spirit and a little more time
Let me take you down the road
I bet you can't take anymore of that kind of stuff in one go so I'll sign off now. Looking forward to seeing some of you in Colorado and New Mexico in a few weeks.
