Dear All,
Thank you to the friends who came down to the Archangel to see our Sea Gypsies gig. I hope you enjoyed seeing our trio play in that trogladyte version of Rick’s cafe Casablanca. The venue was a wonderful mixture of Jackie Collins Kensington disco and 'Come fly with me' Sinatra fifties London.
After a romantic wander across the foggy park in the chill evening air, you will dodge the famous red buses as you cross Kensington High Street and hurry towards the warmth of a local pub. It's like Rattigan's 'The Prince and the Showgirl' all over again, the camera pans over a papiermache London skyline and Muir Matheson cranks up his strings as Luke, Dorie and I step out on to our two inch stage! Stone me they're whipping the credits up so fast I can hardly read them.
I enjoyed playing 'Spanish waters' and 'Trouble comes at night' particularly and it was great of Mike Westergaard to come and make sure the sound was up to his very demanding standards! I would really like to play there again.
Thank you to Lisa, Lauren and Paul for organising the show and for manning the CD shack so well and of course thank you to Luke and Dorie for sticking by me through these harsh Dickensian nights.
I have great ambitions for our little troupe next year including dates in Europe and the US and recording sessions both acoustic and full band. At this time of year one's mind inevitably turns to the Engadine, the last hiding place of December sunshine in Northern Europe, so I am packing my Alpen stock as we speak and heading for the stubli's of St Moritz.
I leave you with a song called 'Sleepy London' to complete our theme for this month. It’s up on the Myspace and will be up on the site as soon as our IT department have returned from their Christmas holidays.
With best wishes for a Happy Christmas,
