I have been having a fearfully cultural time of it musically, in the last week I have seen Robert Plant and Alison Krauss at Wembley Mark Knopfler and his band at the Royal Albert Hall and been to the Opera at Glyndebourne! Monteverdi's "L'incoronazione di Poppea" no less. Stunning vocalists and a real star in Danielle De Niese. I enjoyed all the music very much and thank you to the kind people who took me. All this high culture reminds me of Ian Fleming's suggestion that they supply roller skates in art galleries!
I have been working in the studio with Luke, Dorie and my friend Johnson Somerset and was able to hand Paul Crockford a new lot of demos at the RAH. Paul tells me that we will be doing a UK tour starting in September, so I look forward to that very much, meanwhile summer has finally descended on the English countryside, and it is the song of willow on leather that fills the air, that and the usual drunken squabbling at the local beer festival! We are booked to play at a few rural functions this summer and I can already hear the deep cadences of Kev's Fender bass rolling like mist across the Sussex dawn.
To be getting along with for the moment I offer a song, which can be found in the Attic part of the site. I recorded it in Paris with DJ Jack, a different direction perhaps but never the less the heat of the skid marked trottoir rises up from the grooves like the whiff of legendary summers past. The Corniche glistening in the august light, the sun oil slicks upon the azure sea and the steady hum of the auto route drowning out the crickets! I would love to hear this song thumping from the bars along the Tahiti plage at St Tropez where I first heard Jack play his music under the stars. He has a myspace that features an alternative version of Sooner or Later.
