Dear All,
I am very excited to announce two shows at The Bluebird in Denver and evenings at 3rd and Lindsey in Nashville and the Mission Theatre in Portland OR. I am very lucky to have the chance to get out to the US this summer and play with Luke and Dorie. We are thrilled to revisit some of the gigs we enjoyed so much last year.
I don't think my summer would be complete with out the butterflies that these shows inspire and I am really looking forward to playing the songs in the heat of the heartland. We aim to include more classic material on this outing whilst still giving Water Taxi a good old bash. If anyone has any specific requests for unusual over overlooked gems from the back catalogue, let me know. The rest of us can just get back to our frozen margaritas!
KEEP PORTLAND WIERD says the sticker on my guitar case and I have great affection for this staunch and progressive city. Luke and I have been many times over the years including one ill fated promo trip where we missed our plane and the record company man took our limo and left us to cab up to Kink for a 7.30 am live acoustic session. Ah the mellifluous tones of the vocal chords at that nourishing hour. One always has to be on best behaviour in any radio station that is housed in the same building as it's television affiliate. TV stations carry intimations of coup d'etat, camouflage clad guerillas addressing the newly enfranchised and even in Madrid we were subjected to passport control and a search before being caked in orange pan stick and miming our way through 'Highway Five'. Anyway I like Portland and I like Macmillipedes and I like the beer in jugs and the old school hamburgers!
Nashville. Music city USA, yes but so much more than just music. Am I wrong or is there something a bit crazy about the whole of Davidson County? Surely one of the most beautiful States - ole TN in summer reminds me of the rural Hampshire of my youth. Hay bails like soldiers in a giant’s game of Risk. Mad roadside foliage that could be in Jamaica, the rasp of freezing AC and the chirrup of the ice machine, my goodness it's hot. I shall be tootling out to the Loveless Cafe on Highway 100 to indulge in fried chicken, sweetcorn and a lengthy chain of tiny micro brew lagers. It was great to see so many old friends at 3rd and Lindsley last year and I hope our prestigious Thursday night slot might lure in the old Hillsboro party crew! In all my travels one of my proudest moments was when 'Music Row' magazine said that I could be considered a Nashville local during a wandering and lyrical even semiotic review of 'Feasting with Panthers'. They don't write ‘em like that any more!
Colorado. Well what can I say except that I hassle PCM to book me a new gig every time I get home from the last one. The support I have received from fans in Denver and Boulder has literally allowed me to keep on making music. I have enjoyed huge waves of enthusiasm for the songs coming out of the crowds at The Bluebird and the Fox since 1997 and have to thank KBCO for picking up on Delta Rain initially and then sticking with me for so long.
